Infectious disease leader among top scientists receiving major funds

Dr. James Blanchard, director of the Centre for Global Public Health, will hold a prestigious Canada Research Chair in Epidemiology and Global Public Health, the Canadian government announced earlier this month. A recognized leader in his field, Blanchard conducts a research program that examines how to better plan and deliver healthcare to the world’s most vulnerable populations.

The Canadian government also renewed funding for Dr. David Barber, Research Chair in Arctic System Science, and Dr. Debbie Kelly, Research Chair in Comparative Cognition. Currently, 37 professors hold Canada Research Chairs at the U of M.

Campaign Update

Front and Centre

More than 17,000 alumni have already supported the Front and Centre campaign, and together are making a significant difference in the lives of students like Rebecca Kunzman. "Four years ago my life changed forever when I received a Leaders of Tomorrow scholarship," says Kunzman, who is also the vice-president advocacy for the University of Manitoba Students’ Union. "Before getting this scholarship, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do. It was the most influential factor in staying right here in Winnipeg, my home." Watch this short video which shows the impact that scholarships and bursaries have on the lives of our students.
