Actively Engaging Women and Girls in Recreation, Physical Activity and Sport

On Tuesday, February 27 from 5-9pm, you are invited to join the conversation with experts on removing barriers, and developing inclusive and welcoming environment for women and girls to thrive through sport, recreation and physical activity. Many organizations have identified gender equity as a priority, but struggle to know where to start or what to do next. This session will provide an opportunity to discuss current trends and best practices relating to activities to engage women and girls as participants and leaders in recreation, sport and beyond.

Core Foundations of Positive Athlete Development

In addition to recognizing maltreatment in sport and determining when and how to intervene, coaches need to know how to identify the conditions that create healthy sport experiences.To ensure that athletes receive the greatest benefits from their sport participation, coaches should use positive, holistic, and values-based approaches to athlete development. Coaches can do this is by paying particular attention to enhancing the Core Foundations of Positive Athlete Development.

Congrats to Jeffrey Oduca on being Global TV's January Coach of the Month. In a rough and tumble sport like judo, the best coaches come with a soft heart. Oduca works with kids at the Inner City Judo Club in Winnipeg. He's been teaching for more than 20 years with the same organization that taught him as a kid.

Sport Manitoba is seeking enthusiastic, experienced people to serve as volunteer Team Manitoba Mission Staff for the upcoming 2019 Western Canada Summer Games in Swift Current and the 2019 Canada Winter Games in Red Deer. As part of Team Manitoba, you will lead in helping our province's athletes have the experience of a lifetime at Canada's premier multi-sport event. The submission deadline is Thursday, March 15 at 4:00pm.

Speed, Agility and Quickness

Cory Kennedy, a Strength and Conditioning Coach and Sport Scientist at Canada's Olympic Training Centre in Quebec will be at the Canada Games Sport for Life Centre on Saturday, March 10 to talk about speed, agility, and quickness. This performance development seminar will also include linear and multi-directional speed, the use of technology in the monitoring process, strength development, and athlete testing and evaluation.
